Heli-Seeding
Aerial revegetation systems for extreme sites and inaccessible terrain
Heli-Seeding
Aerial revegetation systems for extreme sites and inaccessible terrain
Certain landscapes are simply unreachable by conventional machines.
Steep alpine slopes, remote valleys, exposed embankments, or protected natural zones
often leave no option for ground-based revegetation. Heli-Seeding offers a safe and
highly efficient method for vegetation establishment in these challenging environments –
without compromising on ecological goals or technical performance.
SRBT provides advanced heli-seeding systems for the revegetation,
erosion control, and surface protection of terrain where every kilogram,
every flight, and every seed counts. Our approach is based on hydraulic and aerial synergy –
combining optimized mulch compositions, precision delivery, and
innovative equipment.
When aerial application is the only option
- Inaccessible slopes and alpine terrain Mountainous regions, ski slopes, and protected habitats with no vehicular access.
- Post-excavation zones and spoil heaps Sites with unstable soil, safety restrictions, or recent blasting activity.
- Environmental or military exclusion areas Locations with entry bans for ground crews – e.g. wildlife sanctuaries, ammunition sites.
- Emergency revegetation after erosion or fire events Situations requiring rapid surface cover to prevent runoff and sediment loss.
Our Approach: Beyond Seed Broadcasting
Classic aerial seeding often relies on dry broadcast of seed mixtures – with limited control over germination, runoff, or erosion risk.
SRBT uses hydraulically engineered compositions, tailored for aerial deployment. These include:
- Pelletized mulch blends with embedded tackifiers and seed
- Fertilized, slow-release seed capsules for staged germination
- Aerial hydromulching using fiber slurries where terrain and flight dynamics allow
In cooperation with GABSE, SRBT is actively developing advanced aerial delivery systems, including the use of pelletized protective mulches. These reduce weight per application and enable greater payload efficiency, minimizing flight time and lowering costs – without compromising seed stability or erosion control.
Hybrid Systems: Air meets Ground
Not all aerial sites are entirely inaccessible. Many benefit from hybrid logistics – combining airborne seed delivery with ground-based application of mulch, water, or binding agents.
SRBT offers integrated solutions such as:
- Remote Pump Systems Ground-based hydromulch units supplying slopes via high-pressure hose systems from valley stations or ridge lines.
- Staged Revegetation Initial helicopter seeding followed by on-foot fiber mulching in partial-access zones.
- Aerial support for manual deployment Material drops, hose placement, and crew assistance via airlift – reducing climbing and manual load transport.
Aerial Seeding Applications
- Alpine revegetation after construction Slope protection around lift towers, road cuts, and avalanche control systems.
- Rehabilitation of blast zones and quarries Fast, large-scale revegetation of raw surfaces exposed to mining or blasting.
- Remote pasture regeneration Restoration of grasslands and ecological zones in upland or protected areas.
- Fire-damaged terrain Seeding with nurse species and erosion-resistant cover on recently burned slopes.
Controlled Performance in Complex Terrain
Each heli-seeding project is planned using GIS-based mapping, flight planning, and materials logistics.
Our service includes:
- Pre-analysis of slope stability and access restrictions
